Test Score Calculator

Convert your test results into percentage scores. Supports questions-based and points-based scoring modes.

How the Test Score Calculator Works

Convert your raw test results into a percentage score. You can use either Questions Mode (enter total questions and correct answers) or Points Mode (enter points earned and total possible). The calculator gives you your percentage score without assigning a letter grade, as grading scales vary widely between institutions.

The Formula

Questions Mode: Percentage = (Correct Answers / Total Questions) × 100

Points Mode: Percentage = (Points Earned / Points Possible) × 100

Worked Example

Scenario (Questions Mode)

A test has 50 questions. You answered 42 correctly. Your percentage score is (42 / 50) × 100 = 84%.

Scenario (Points Mode)

A test is worth 100 points total. You earned 76 points. Your percentage score is (76 / 100) × 100 = 76%.

Interpreting Your Results

Your percentage score represents the portion of the test you answered correctly. What constitutes a passing score, good grade, or excellent performance depends entirely on your institution\u2019s grading policy and the specific assessment. Some tests use curved grading, minimum pass marks of 40%, 50%, or 60%, and different letter grade thresholds.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which mode should I use?

Use Questions Mode if your test is scored by counting correct answers out of a total number of questions (e.g., 42/50). Use Points Mode if the test has different point values per question (e.g., short answer questions worth different points).

Can I calculate letter grades with this?

This calculator provides your percentage score only. Use the Percentage to Grade Converter with your institution\u2019s specific grading scale to convert your percentage to a letter grade.

What if I know how many I got wrong instead of how many I got right?

In Questions Mode, subtract the number wrong from the total questions to get the number correct. For example, if there are 50 questions and you got 8 wrong, you got 42 correct.
